burraja gallery’s first exhibition in 2019 gulpa wala will present works by Yorta Yorta artist Dr Treahna Hamm – showcasing over 30 years of her multi-disciplinary creative practice.
“gulpa wala” (deep water) refers to the unseen and fragile balanced environment along the river line and it's physical and spiritual connections that Aboriginal culture and people hold.
Dr Treahna Hamm is an internationally renowned contemporary Aboriginal artist based in Yarrawonga/Mulwala. She rejects the hierarchy of art forms as a Western bourgeois construct and embraces a multi-disciplinary practice that works to reinforce and reaffirm Aboriginal culture.
