I have been interested in making jewellery since high school. But as things happened, I didn't get to pursue a career as a jeweller at that time. Nearly six years ago I started K Q Designs, selling beading supplies and jewellery that I created. I have been a regular at local markets, taught beading to all ages, the youngest under 6 years – the oldest over 80 years old, and had my beaded creations in local retail shops.

Becoming a member of Albury Lapidary Club reignited my enthusiasm for metal and gemstones, and encouraged me to go back to school. Through the club, I learned the basics of metalsmithing, and the skill that is involved in finding and polishing gemstones (though I still have a long way to go to get that part right!). Now, I enjoy spending time in my studio creating jewellery that is individual and unique with the new skills I have attained.

After two years of study at Wangaratta Tafe, I graduated as a bench jeweller at the end of 2009 and took up residence as an art jeweller with GIGS Studio and Galleries on the Lincoln Causeway, Wodonga. I share the studio with a fellow classmate, Judith Armstrong. Our tastes in jewellery are very different, which works well for us. My passions include silver and copper, folding and forging the metal into interesting shapes before adding gemstones or enamel. My most recent pieces have been forged from thin sheets of copper into various forms, shaped and then covered in layers of glass enamel colours to make one of a kind earrings and pendants.

My aim is to make my art into an enjoyable, creative career. I love being free to experiment with techniques, colour and materials to make jewellery that is interesting and different from the commercially produced pieces seen in jewellery stores. I hope to start teaching others some of the techniques I have so much fun with sometime next year. I'm usually in the studio Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
