ATYP Scholarship

ATYP Scholarship

Murray Arts, in conjunction with Australian Theatre for Young People (ATYP) are pleased to announce a regional scholarship for a young person from the Murray Arts region aged 15-18 years to attend a week long school holiday workshop at Australian Theatre for Young People in Sydney.

ATYP is a theatre company exclusively devoted to young people. They are driven by the idea that the arts can inspire creative, courageous and confident young people wherever they are and whatever they want to be. ATYP believes that the arts have the power to transform lives, enrich communities and ultimately impact upon the future of our nation. Their work is motivated by the need to improve access for all young Australians to share their stories and participate in the arts regardless of economic or geographical barriers.

Tuition Fees will be covered by ATYP.  Travel costs up to $300 will be covered by Murray Arts.  Murray Arts will also assist the scholarship winner in sourcing accommodation funds if required.

Holiday Workshops at ATYP are the perfect place to develop skills, gain performance experience and make new friends who love theatre.  The week begins by exploring the theme in new and creative ways, enjoying drama activities and getting to know fellow participants. As the week progresses, the group works to create a performance based on their own ideas. The workshops culminate with a performance in a professional venue under lights to an excited and appreciative audience – what could be better?

Dates for 2012 Holiday programs are:

10th – 13th April and 16th – 20th April

2nd – 6th July and 9th – 13th July

24th – 18th September and 2nd – 5th October

How do I apply?

Applicants will need to complete the ATYP application form (Download the application form below).  Please emphasise your regional location.   Applicants will also need to write a short (no more than two pages) submission to Murray Arts about why they would like to attend a school holiday workshop and what they would get out of it. A small panel will assess the applications and award the scholarship.

Applications are open to young people aged 15-18.

Scholarship recipients are required by ATYP to submit a written report about their workshop experience.  It is expected that Murray Arts would also receive a copy of this written report.

Accommodation Costs

Should the young person have friends or family they can stay with while in Sydney, accommodation costs may not be required. Murray Arts will assist the applicant in sourcing funds locally for accommodation if required.

Should parents wish to accompany the scholarship winner, they will need to do so at their own cost.

Applications close Friday 24 February
