Running a creative business...Artshed 41 part of the Circuit open studio program 20 & 21 JUNE 2015
A Local Flavour
Part of the reason for recently moving to the North East/Murray Region are the fabulous opportunities available. As a visual artist the surrounding landscapes are a constant source of inspiration for me and continually offer up new and changing environments with each season. There is a vibrant, supportive arts community which is very welcoming. Family life is proving to be a successful art/life balance, as I am fortunate enough to work full time in my home studio, concentrating on my arts practice. (Artshed41)
I will always be inspired by the plains and dry climate of the Riverina but am relishing the fresh subject matters available to me from my Wooragee doorstep.
The Circuit weekend is a great time for me to make new connections and engage with the public directly. Art making is such a solitary pursuit that I'm looking forward to exposing my artwork in the context of how it is produced. The studio is a true reflection of myself, what inspires and invigorates my day. This is a new experience for me also, so I'm very grateful for the opportunity.
As this is a new professional space, I'm looking forward to sharing it with Circuit visitors. I plan to encourage participants in the workshops to explore collage and mixed media ideas, and produce a finished piece to take home.
Visitors will be welcome to browse through my books/resources, relax and enjoy the artwork on sale and take in the views of the national park from my studio.
The Art Life
Themes which recur in my work include my love of native bird life, rural scenes and landscapes. I also relish in experimenting with semi abstract compositions, collage and assemblage when time allows. There is always a fine line between managing business and pleasure as they constantly overlap! I never tire of my work and never feel I have enough time to explore all my ideas.
At the moment I am busy stocking my two NSW galleries who have a loyal clientele and who have supported my career for 5 years. They are my staple market. I'm in the process of signing with a Canberra gallery and building a collection for them. The Mosman Art Prize and other competitions are also on the to-do-list, not to mention working on a permanent display of works for sale in the studio.
Artshed 41 is open just in time for the Circuit weekend and it is a great opportunity to kick things off at Wooragee. The plan is to be open to the public every Friday and Saturday from 10am-4pm and other days by appointment.
