Kate Barrette Cummins
Having studied theatre/stage management in Melbourne Kate has always had an affiliation with the arts. Her constant passion for sculpture and the use of recycled materials has become the basis for her artistic endeavours. Kate’s strong commitment to developing community based art projects has led her to create projects such as welding workshops with disadvantaged youth, paint parties, and more recently the annual exhibition Mother Creation which has been held at Creators Artspace Wodonga over the last three years.
Over twelve months ago Kate and her husband opened Brett Cummins Jewellery in Mate St. Dueto the layout of the store they made the decision to create an exhibition gallery that they offer as a free space for local artist to display and sell works - featuring a different local artist of varying mediums every 3 to 6 months.
Currently Kate’s energy for further developing community based projects has seen her working with adults with disabilities to create self portraiture for an exhibition to be held at Creators Artspace December 8th to the 13th. Kate is also the vice President of Creators Artspace, a supportive role that concretes her commitment to emerging artists within our region.
“Community is my mantra Cook your sick friend a Lasagne, visit your elderly neighbour, plant fruit trees as your front fence. Act locally think globally. If you need a hand I’d love to help give me a call.”
